MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WSYM) - Over a dozen community members gathered in Meridian Township Sunday to honor a former township clerk.

Virgina White died in 2015 in Enola, Pennsylvania.

White resigned from her position as township clerk in 1997 after 25 years.

A plaque now lies next to a newly planted tree in White’s honor near the Meridian Historical Village pond.

"She was a person that made a difference,” said Alfreda Schmidt, a close friend of White. “Her integrity in developing answers for each other and for the serious approaches she made right here in Meridian Township, you can look around here and see her fingerprints all over the place."

White worked tirelessly on several projects such as nature paths, the community band shelter and hosted several TV programs.
