Patient records breached at Mid-Michigan Physicians Practice

Thursday McLaren Medical Group (MMG) sent a letter to current and previous patients letting them know about a data breach that happened at its Mid-Michigan Physicians P.C. practice.

The letter, sent to patients' homes, warns them of the risk of their patient information being exposed. It also gives them details about identity theft monitoring, and the protection that will be provided for them.

In March, MMG realized that one of their computer systems for its Radiology Center might have been accessed without authorization. That computer system had documents that contained authorizations, orders, scheduling info, and other documents. Those documents could have had a patient's name, birth date, address, phone number, medical record number, diagnosis, and social security number.

MMG investigated and confirmed that information from seven patients was accessed. The computer system has since been rebuilt, and updated with more security to protect patient information.

MMG recommends that the patients who got a letter review their accounts, and any credit reports. If they notice any suspicious activity they should call the bank, or company that maintains the account.
