The Michigan State University Museum will display two NAMES Project AIDS Memorial Quilt blocks beginning Friday to mark World AIDS Day, which takes place on Dec. 1 each year.

Established in 1987, The NAMES Project Foundation works to preserve and use The AIDS Memorial Quilt to advance healing, social justice and action. The quilt began in San Francisco 30 years ago with a single 3-by-6 panel, and today includes more than 49,000 panels created by friends and family members of those lost to the disease.

“We thank the MSU Museum for hosting this event and we invite you all out to see what wonderful art we have created together as a nation,” said Julie Rhoad, executive director of The NAMES Project Foundation.

The blocks from The AIDS Memorial Quilt will be on display until Jan. 14 in the MSU Museum's Art-Science-Creativity Gallery.
