We've talked about on many occasions, the Coronavirus has interrupted most sports over the past few months including high school athletics.
But, that hasn't stopped one athlete from Grand Rapids who's doing all he can to stay on top of his game. Clayton Roberts is a 6'4" high school basketball player, who like many other athletes, misses competing in the sport he loves.
The pandemic has not stopped him from continuing to get better at the game of basketball. Clayton made the move this school year from a traditional high school to the Great Lakes Cyber Academy. The Great Lakes Cyber Academy is a public, tuition-free, virtual school that allows Clayton the flexibility to get his school work done at home and leaves plenty of time for him to practice.
"Lately I just, that's been running a lot just trying to keep my body in tip top shape for hopefully a year to come back but if it doesn't come back. I've been basically doing the same thing, outside working out working on ball handling shooting running keep my body in shape, and just getting ready for the next season." said Roberts.
"For the upcoming school year. Basically I'm gonna do the same thing, knock out these assignments knock out the classes so I don't really have to worry about it. But for the upcoming season, we only lost one senior on our team. So basically we still got the same team, and honestly I'm ready I hope they ready to cuz I'm ready to go nationals way stay regionals."
Clayton is a member of the Grand Rapids Angels program, it's a home schooled basketball league where he averaged 10 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 assists per game. Clayton and his team won the state championship this past season. In the virtual classroom, Clayton plans to graduate next year.
