LANSING, Mich. — Sparrow CEO E.W. Tibbs Jr. is no longer employed by Sparrow Health System.
Sparrow sent a statement with the announcement Thursday afternoon.
The Sparrow Health System Board will soon meet to figure out the timeline for finding his replacement.
Tibbs was put on paid leave last week when the story broke of his involvement in an alleged sexual assault in a Lynchburg, Virginia, hotel room and a woman's lawsuit.
The woman's lawsuit names Tibbs, Centra, and multiple "John and Jane Does" as defendants. She said they helped cover up Tibbs' conduct.
Sparrow told us Tibbs was thoroughly vetted and none of this came up during the hiring process.
After Tibbs was put on paid leave, Joe Ruth was appointed to be acting president and CEO of Sparrow Health System.
On March 15, Ruth wanted to remind the caregivers and volunteers at Sparrow that there are programs available to help through this tough time, including the CARES-EAP, Sparrow Strong, the Pastoral Care department, and the Human Resources team.
He also stated that "Sparrow Health System is committed to providing a work environment that is free of discrimination and/or any kind of harassment – this will not be tolerated (HR Policy 0643). Sparrow has zero tolerance for harassing and abusive behavior of any kind by any Caregiver."
