Ways to protect your pumpkin ahead of Halloween

We are less than one week from Halloween, with that a lot of people will be carving their Jack 0 Laterns.

We spend a lot of time carving our designs, so we want to do what we can to protect and preserve our pumpkins.

The most common problem is the pumpkin drying out.

For that, it's recommended to use petroleum Jelly, WD-40, hair spray, a bleach/water combo (3 cups of water, 3 tablespoons of bleach), or floor wax as a lubricant to keep your pumpkin looking it's best.

It's important to remember though that some of these remedies are flammable, so it's best to use an L-E-D candle rather than a flame lit candle.

Another thing to contend with is mold and bacteria.

That bleach and water combo. will help prevent those items from growing on or in your pumpkin.

We also have to watch out for furry creatures like squirrels and chipmunks.

It's recommended that you use a water and hot sauce mixture, Windex and pledge or even pet hair to keep those critters away.

You have to remember that not all of these tricks are kid or pet friendly.

Keep that in mind before you display your pumpkin.
