LANSING, Mich. — A Lansing man accused of shooting and killing the mother his children and her mother was arraigned on murder charges today.

Brion Reynolds, 23, is facing two counts of open murder, three counts of assault with intent to murder and two felony firearms charges.

Reynolds is charged in connection with the Sept. 16 shooting that killed Alexis Brown and her mother, Michelle Roper at a home in the 1200 block of West Michigan Avenue.

A 6-year-old boy was also injured in the shooting.

Reynolds was on the run for months before turning himself in to police on Monday.

Brown's girlfriend Shantelle Coulter and friend Chelsea Gunter said the charges bring some relief.

“I felt pure joy in my heart," Gunter said. "I felt like I couldn't breathe. And I'm just glad that he's locked up.”

Coulter and Gunter said they have been hoping for justice for their loved ones, and even created a Facebook page to find Reynolds.

“I mean, that's not bringing them back, him getting caught," Coulter said. "But it's a start to the justice that the family and the kids, all the friends can finally feel.”

They said it also eases stress on the family after four months of worry.

“For him to be caught, and for them kids not to have to look over their shoulders to think like, if he's coming for me next or so on so forth… it's it's a relief for them," Coulter said. "So that for us is justice in itself—outside of him seeing prison walls for the rest of his life.”

He is scheduled for a probable cause conference in 54-A District Court on Jan. 27.
