LCC student among the best in elite WSIA national white paper contest

LANSING, Mich. — LCC Insurance and Risk Management major Sara Self placed third in a national white paper contest with her timely paper - Effects of COVID-19: Workers’ Compensation and the Shift to Telecommuting.

Wholesale and Specialty Insurance Association (WSIA) sponsors the White Paper Contest twice a year to expand surplus lines awareness and knowledge for college students studying risk management and insurance, actuarial science, finance and business.

The winning papers are published on the WSIA website and the winners receive awards in the following range:

· 1st place - $1,500 award

· 2nd place - $1,000 award

· 3rd place - $ 500 award

Sara is the Vice President of Gamma Iota Sigma (GIS) Gamma Mu chapter, a fraternity at LCC that promotes student growth and interest in the insurance industry. She has a passion for learning and celebrates the importance of continuing an education. A mother of two boys, most of her free time is spent with her children.

Although she also enjoys attending conferences through GIS to continually develop her knowledge of the insurance industry. Sara has a strong network of family and friends that support her in continuing her education and success in future activities.

WSIA offers a variety of educational and outreach programs to support college students majoring in risk management and insurance and those interested in working in the excess and surplus lines industry.
