EAST LANSING, Mich. — Can you sing about your love for downtown East Lansing? Show it in the way you dance? Recite love poems to Grand River Avenue?
The East Lansing Downtown Development Authority has a TikTok challenge for you.

The "Show EL Your Love" challenge invites people to film themselves in front of an East Lansing business or landmark. Participants can make up their own dance, sing or do any other creative activity to show their love for downtown East Lansing.
"This is a great opportunity for community members to head downtown, film themselves dancing, singing or doing a sketch and show East Lansing their love," said East Lansing Community and Development and Engagement Supervisor Amy Schlusler-Schmitt.
Participants must upload their videos to TikTok and tag the downtown East Lansing page. The deadline is March 13. The winner will receive a $200 eGift card for downtown businesses.
The example is posted on the East Lansing TikTok page featuring two teachers from the East Lansing Public Schools.
The challenge is part of the Place Project, one piece of a strategy by the Downtown Development Authority to help businesses recover from the social and economic challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.
East Lansing Downtown Management Chairperson Chanelle Crouch said she hopes everyone will submit a TikTok entry to show love to these businesses.
"We are proud to be continued partners in activating downtown spaces that highlight our business community," Crouch said.
Participants are required to wear a face mask both inside and outside as part of the mandate in the city.
