Beyond the Bullet: The cost of gun violence in Detroit

This afternoon, Police Chief James Craig spoke out, saying this past weekend was the second most deadly weekend in Detroit this year.

Chief Craig says they are seeing a spike in drive-by shootings. The chief is calling on the community to help end the violence.

He spoke about the violence at a grand opening for the new 7th precinct building.

He hopes adding this location will work as one of many tools to combat neighborhood crime.

Before this building was established, the next closest police building was in the 11th precinct, seven miles away.

The chief did say from 2014-2015 the city had the lowest homicide rates in decades.

He tells us, so far, overall crime in 2016 is still on a decline, saying it is 16 percent lower than 2013.
