Americans spent nearly $40 billion last year on things while they were drunk, according to a new study from Finder.com .
According to the study, 26 percent of Americans admitted that they have shopped while they were drunk, which works out to about 53.4 million people. The annual survey reviews about 2,000 American adults about their drunk shopping habits.
Last year, the study found that more people spent less, only about 30.43 billion, compared to $39.4 billion this year. 46 percent of people admitted to drunkenly buying something last year compared to 26 percent this year.
As for the average spend, the average person spent $736 per year while drunk, according to the survey.
The study found that the most people are buying shoes, clothing and more, followed by gambling, cigarettes, DVD and movies, tech products, narcotics, records, artwork and then a vacation. We spend the most on food, though, with more than 50 percent of people saying they drunkenly bought food.
Other crazy things people have bought while drunk include a pet (12.38 percent), a vacation (14.54 percent), a car (10.81 percent) and a motorcycle (5.11 percent).
Millennials were the ones who spent the most, $1,047, followed by Gen X at $469 and Baby Boomers at $466.
