The beer war between Bud Light and Coors Light and Miller Lite is raging on, with Coors Light unveiling a new "smart" tap that will give out free beer every time Bud Light gets negative.
You may remember this started during the Super Bowl when Bud Light ran an ad about corn syrup in Coors Light and Miller Lite beers.
Now, each time Bud Light talks about Coors Light on social or broadcast media, the tap handle will light up and every person 21 and up will get a free Coors Light at the bar.
“When they bring hate, we will literally bring light,” says Ryan Reis, vice president of the Coors family of brands. “The more Bud Light talks, the more we refresh.”
The smart tap will launch in five cities to start on March 21: New York, Philadelphia, Dallas, Omaha and Las Vegas, to coincide with the start of the NCAA Tournament.
In a statement, Anheuser-Busch said:
"Free beer is a good thing. So is talking about the ingredients inside of beer. We continue to remain focused on transparency because we know that is what consumers are looking for. Knowing what is and what isn't in your beer - whether you paid for it or not - can only be good for the beer industry overall."
Coors Light workers will monitor Bud Light's activity in real time and whenever an attack happens, the tap will light up. The company said a simplified version will be available broadly.
