During this time everyone is doing what they can to help support one another, so local nonprofit Hand2Hand has kicked off a new campaign called Win Win where they’re helping feed families and support local restaurants at the same time.
Hand2hand is a local non-profit that partners local churches with 208 West Michigan schools to deliver food to kids over the weekend.
Amid the Covid-19 pandemic they’re partnering with restaurants in 8 of their 37 school districts to help local families. Those include Wyoming, Grandville, Byron Center, Jenison, Hudsonville, Zeeland, West Ottawa, and Holland.
Hand2Hand recently realized it was getting more difficult to purchase large amounts of food, so they came up with the Win Win campaign as a solution to not only help feed families but support local restaurants.
So they asked several restaurants to come up with a menu that feeds a family of four that they can still make a profit on but for a reasonable price.
Organizers with the non-profit then purchase gift cards to those restaurants through donations to give out to families.
All in hopes to help feed more than 7,800 children.
“We are just absolutely honored to partner with our local restaurants, hard working families, hard working employees, and any way this can help them during these uncertain times, we are honored to partner with them,” says Cheri Honderd, Founder and Executive Director of Hand2Hand .
At the moment this is only for families already enrolled with Hand2Hand through their school. Not every family will get a gift card each weekend, this will be in addition to the food they already receive.
If you’d like to help they’re still looking for food and monetary donations, they have directions on their website on how you can put together meal kits to drop them off at their trailer in Hudsonville so then the churches can distribute them.
Restaurants interested in participating can sign up on the Hand2Hand website as well.
