The city manager of Kalamazoo has been cleared by his doctor to return to work after being diagnosed last week with COVID-19.

Jim Ritsema will continue to work remotely, according to the city this afternoon.

He will ease back into his regular work schedule, the city said.

“I want to thank my colleagues and the community for their well-wishes while I was out,” Ritsema said. “My doctor believes I will make a full recovery, but I know thousands of others haven’t been so fortunate.

"My diagnosis is yet another reminder to remain vigilant, wear your mask, wash your hands and practice social distancing.”
