(WXYZ) — Michigan businesses that depend on indoor dining will be able to postpone their monthly sales use and withholding tax payments that are due Dec. 20, effective immediately.
Governor Gretchen Whitmer announced that they can postpone them until January 20, 2021. Businesses can include entertainment and recreational venues, along with restaurants.
Whitmer said the State Treasury will waive all penalties and interest for 31 days.
"This is a crucial step in helping our businesses that are struggling," she said.
Whitmer has called on the state Legislature to pass $100 million in direct aid to people and businesses hit hardest by the pandemic.
The Whitmer administration has prohibited indoor restaurant dining and closed various entertainment businesses under an order designed to stem a spike in COVID-19 cases.
