Michigan confirms 514 new cases of COVID-19, 2 additional deaths

LANSING, Mich. — There are now 87,403 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 6,249 deaths, the state reported Sunday.

That's up 514 cases from the day before. The state is also reporting two new deaths.

So far, 63,636 have recovered from the virus in Michigan, according the state's latest COVID-19 numbers.

Health officials reported 86,191 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 6,247 deaths on Friday, with zero new deaths.

This week, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer extended the state's emergency and disaster declaration until Sept. 4.

The governor's office said every region in Michigan has seen an uptick in new cases over the past several weeks, and daily case counts in late July exceeded 50 cases per million statewide.

The statewide positivity rate has also increased from a low of 2% in mid-June to 3.5% in late July.
