LANSING, Mich. — Michigan reported 1,015 new cases of COVID-19 and 18 new deaths Saturday, just two days after reported the highest increase in cases in nearly three months.

This brings the total number of cases to 92,155 since the pandemic began in March and 6,318 deaths.

On Friday, Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer said the state is seeing a plateau in COVID-19 cases, but there is still more work to be done.

Whitmer said that despite being one of the hardest hit states during the pandemic, Michigan's average infection rate last month was half that of Ohio, Indian and Wisconsin.

There were 39,275 tests done in the state on Thursday, the second-highest number of tests done ever. The day before, more than 40,000 tests were done.
