LANSING, Mich. — The State of Michigan reported 669 new cases of COVID-19 and 16 new deaths, according to MDHHS Chief Medical Executive Dr. Joneigh Khaldun.
That brings the total number of cases in Michigan to 79,176 and the total number of deaths to 6,170 since the pandemic began with the first cases on March 10.
Last week alone, Khaldun said they identified 78 new outbreaks by local health departments. 31% of those outbreaks were with nursing homes and adult care, 22% with social gatherings, 10% in workplaces and 9% in restaurants.
Testing continues to be high, and on Saturday, a record number of people were tested. In all, 37,864 tests were administered.
Younger people are getting the virus more and more, with the 20-29 age group now having the second-most number of cases behind 50-59. The number of cases between the ages of 0-29 has gone up immensely in recent weeks.
