LANSING, Mich. — The State of Michigan is reporting 735 new cases of COVID-19 and 7 deaths on Saturday.
This brings the total number of confirmed cases to 82,356 and total number of deaths to 6,206.
On Friday, Michigan reported 734 new cases of COVID-19 and 8 additional deaths.
Cases are continuing to rise in Michigan and across the country, especially among young people. In the past three weeks, cases among the ages of 0-19 have nearly doubled.
On Wednesday, Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer expanded the closure of indoor bars to the Traverse City area and Upper Peninsula. She also reduced the number of people allowed in indoor gatherings to 10. The outdoor gathering limits remain at 250 in Regions 6 and 8, with a 100 person limit for the rest of the state.
“As we see COVID-19 cases continue to rise, Michiganders cannot afford to drop our guard. We must take every step possible to save lives, protect the brave men and women on the front lines, and avoid overwhelming our health care system while we continue to combat COVID-19,” Whitmer said in a statement. “After seeing a resurgence in cases connected to social gatherings across the state, we must further limit gatherings for the health of our community and economy. By taking these strong actions, we will be better positioned to get our children back into classrooms and avoid a potentially devastating second wave.”
There are 60,022 cumulative total recovered COVID-19 cases in Michigan, as of July 31, according to the state.
