A California non-profit is helping pet owners who may be in the hospital because of COVID-19.

Red Rover is like the Red Cross, but for pets. They've been helping pet owners for years and are now offering grants for people who are in the hospital with the coronavirus and can't take care of their pets. All you have to do is find a boarding location that will take your pet, apply on line, and Red Rover will cover up to 2 weeks of boarding costs.

They also cover some veterinary bills if your animal was vaccinated before they're boarded.

“The human-animal bond is so important and part of our mission is to strengthen that," Nicole Forsyth, the non-profit's CEO tells FOX 17 it's the right thing to do because if you have a pet, you know they're a member of the family. "And we’ve seen with so many different types of crises, whether it’s natural disaster, domestic violence, people won’t leave their situations without making sure their pets are cared for well, so these grants will provide the opportunity for people to leave, go the hospital, get the help that they need.. and not have to worry about their pets.”

The application process is quick and payment can be made to the boarding company in about 24 hours, but you must apply before taking the animal to be boarded. The non-profit cannot help if the boarding already completed, even if you need help with the bill. To apply, go to redrover.org .
