Kimy Battista was excited to come back to work after being on maternity leave since January, she said.

Battista owns K dot B Artistry and makes calligraphy signs for weddings.

She was ready to work on those signs for her clients until they began calling and canceling because of the coronavirus outbreak, she said.

“I had a lot of brides asking like ‘what’s your policy for rescheduling,’" Battista said during a FaceTime interview on Tuesday afternoon. “I did a full ‘if you reschedule with me, there’s no penalty, there’s no extra fee.’”

Battista said if a client canceled, she understood but the booking fee was non-refundable.

However for those that rescheduled she offered to make wedding postponed notices for them, free of charge, she said.

“I know a lot of them spend a lot of time on their invites, making sure their invites look nice and probably spent a lot of money on those,” Battista said. “So, they don’t want to spend anymore money on having to tell their guests that they’re postponing. So, I did it for free.”

Battista said she does it all digitally. The clients email her and they go over colors and wording. And, on the spot, she makes the changes and emails it back to them.

“I have sympathy for all these brides,” Battista said. “I feel so bad that this is happening. But we have to stay safe.”
