Friday morning, Postema Christmas Tree Farm kicked off their 2020 season with dozens of people picking trees, cutting them down and then taking them home.
“We have a whole bunch of trees on the lot,” said Brandon Postema, who handles the marketing and customer service side of his family’s farm. “We’ve had people come out all day. We’re open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and we’re just having fun out here today.”
Postema’s 5-year-old daughter Sadie and Max, 3, were excited as well, running around the farm while eating candy canes.
By late afternoon on Friday, at least 80 people purchased Christmas trees. They have 400 for sale and 3,000 in the ground, Postema said. And, if a customer couldn’t come to the farm to get one, the farm offered to drop one off at their home. It’s a new service they’re offering this year due to the coronavirus pandemic.
“If you’re in quarantine or you can’t come out because you have pre-existing conditions, and you’d rather not risk it, we wanted to make sure you can still get [to experience] Christmas,” Postema said. “With that, we’re offering our candy canes, hot chocolate and a custom ornament that we hand to people every year. We just want to make sure that we can bring Christmas to you if you couldn’t make it to us.”
Postema said they came up with the idea after a few people asked the family about deliveries. So, on Friday they made it official with a post on their facebook page, charging up to $50 for deliveries for customers who live within a 20-mile radius of the farm.
“Taking care of our customers, making sure they want to come back year after year, that’s the greatest compliment that we can get,” Postema said. “So, if they couldn’t make it, we wanted to make sure at least we were able to see them this year.”
