Michigan’s colleges and universities will be able to convert large spaces for instruction use without needing approval or inspection thanks to a new executive order from Gov. Gretchen Whitmer.

The order amends the state’s administrative code during the COVID-19 pandemic so it will be easier for colleges and universities to offer social distanced learning.

“I am committed to doing everything in my power to remove barriers for individuals, businesses and schools to fight COVID-19,” Whitmer said. “This order will make it easier for our colleges and universities to educate Michigan’s college students in the most safe and efficient way by ensuring everyone can maintain safe physical distancing.”

The Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs will issue further guidance.
