Michigan State students are starting the fall online. The decision was announced Tuesday night by the school’s president.

Eastern Michigan University plans to welcome back students in-person in less than two weeks.

Only about 28 percent of EMU students will begin the fall with face-to-face learning, according to the school’s president. The rest are either starting remotely, or partially remotely.

As for MSU students, the decision to start fully online came as a surprise for some.

"You know but with all this uncertainty going on, you just have to grind through it at this point and focus on what you can control.”

MSU says it will continue to allow a small number of students to remain in dorms this fall. The school’s president announcing Tuesday night, the semester will start remotely due to the pandemic.

“Ok we may possibly go all online if certain things happen in a certain order, but their really wasn't any if that, it was just an automatic free for all, ok we're all going online and that was kind of it.”

And just announced, Eastern Michigan University will have face-to-face classes, with added safety measures in place.

EMU students who do return to campus in Ypsilanti will need to complete daily heath screenings, and wear face coverings inside all campus buildings — not including private offices.

Classrooms will be cleaned nightly, and there will be hand sanitizing stations throughout campus.

Big parties will be off the table.

As for on-campus living at EMU, single rooms were offered at a discounted rate if students requested them.

Housing check-ins will be staggered to help with social distancing and plexi-glass was installed at front desks.

As for visitors, they won’t be allowed in dorms after move-in, at least for now.
