CASEVILLE, Mich. — The Michigan Lottery has played a big role in funding education in our state, which is why it has teamed up with FOX 47 News to recognize excellent educators state-wide.
Kathy Tighe, a teacher in Caseville Public School, is this week's Michigan Lottery Excellence in Education award winner. Her nominator says, "You have made an impact on students that last a lifetime.... and my wish is for everyone now to recognize and appreciate you for all that you do here at Caseville Public School." She says that she does what she does because "in my small school I am the only high school teacher except for one section of 9th grade so my students spend 2 maybe 3 years with me and if I don't fill that time with important educational opportunities, they'll lose, they'll miss out, so I take that responsibility very seriously." This is why she is this week's excellence in education award winner.
Tighe was recognized with a $1,500 check from the Michigan Lottery and her school will receive a $500 grant!
The Excellence in Education award is sponsored by the Michigan Lottery, proud to provide more than $20 billion to support public education since 1972!
