LANSING, Mich. — The Michigan Lottery has played a big role in funding education in our state, which is why it has teamed up with FOX 47 News to recognize excellent educators state-wide. After weeks of winners, it's time to announce this year's Educator of the Year.

When you think of an educator pushing the envelope for their students Stewart Kieliszewski comes to mind. Stewart has made it his mission to provide opportunities to his students rarely found in a rural school district.

"I think one of the things that motivates me the most is that we are in a smaller district and I want to be able to give the students the opportunity to learn as many things as possible."

He's the main science teacher at the Ubly Community Schools but that doesn't stop him for teaching things like mechatronics, woodshop and even coaching the track team.

"I think this is the 3rd or 4th year in mechatraonics. We probably have 8 or 9 Engineers that have come out of this class."

Because Stewart gives so much of his time and energy to the school the Michigan Lottery has named him the 2019 Educator of the Year.

"I thought to myself, how many educators were nominated from across the state of Michigan and for some reason I was the guy that was selected. What a great feeling. I'm walking out of here 8 foot 2 easily."

The Excellence in Education award is sponsored by the Michigan Lottery, proud to provide more than $20 billion to support public education since 1972!
