LANSING, Mich. — The Michigan Lottery has played a big role in funding education in our state, which is why it has teamed up with FOX 47 News to recognize excellent educators state-wide.

Bob Thomson, a teacher at Thunder Bay Junior High in Alpena is this week's Michigan Lottery Excellence in Education award winner. In her nomination video Jean Kowalski says, "I'm very excited that Bob Thompson is receiving this award and we know that he is going to do great things in the future."

Bob commented, "You really want to put students in a situation where they find that moment where the light turns on and from that moment on they're excited and you just lit their passion and all you got to do now is get out of the way and let them go"

Bob was recognized with a $1,500 check from the Michigan Lottery and his school will receive a $500 grant!

The Excellence in Education award is sponsored by the Michigan Lottery, proud to provide more than $23 billion to support public education since 1972!
