LANSING, Mich. — The Michigan Lottery has played a big role in funding education in our state, which is why it has teamed up with FOX 47 News to recognize excellent educators state-wide.
Janice Smith, a Social Worker at Fisher Magnet Lower Academy in Detroit is this week's Michigan Lottery Excellence in Education award winner. In her nomination video, Shalonda Dennis says, "When she walks into a room Miss Smith just brightens everyone's mood with her presence and her personality."
Janice commented, "I like to say that every one of the 600 plus students at that school, I treat them like they're my very own children. We try to expose them to new things so they can reach their goals in life."
Janice was recognized with a $1,500 check from the Michigan Lottery and her school will receive a $500 grant!
