LANSING, Mich. — The Michigan Lottery has played a big role in funding education in our state, which is why it has teamed up with FOX 47 News to recognize excellent educators state-wide.
Jenna Betka-Pope, a teacher at Excel Charter Academy in Kent is this week's Michigan Lottery Excellence in Education award winner. In the nomination video, Eirann Betka-Pope says, "I nominated Jenna for the Excellence in education award not just because she's an excellent educator but because she's an advocate for her students as well."
Jenna commented, "Well, working in special education I think that a lot of students have never had very high expectations put on them so when I get them in Middle School I try really hard to persuade them to have high expectations for themselves. It's major to have someone say I think you can do it, I'm here to help you with that."
Jenna was recognized with a $1,500 check from the Michigan Lottery and her school will receive a $500 grant!
