LANSING, Mich. — The Michigan Lottery has played a big role in funding education in our state, which is why it has teamed up with FOX 47 News to recognize excellent educators state-wide.
Bob - "This week's Michigan Lottery excellence in education winner is Karen Storey with Brighton Area Schools. Karen, congratulations! We have a video from your nominator take a look."
Nominator - "You couldn't pick a better representative for the state of Michigan or representative of education in general than Karen Storey. She's just an incredible person in our district, she's an incredible person in relation to our community and your award would be lucky to have her!"
Karen - "Dr. Gray has allowed me to grow as an individual and as a teacher."
Bob - "You also started a program called pack of dogs?"
Karen - "I did, we have a total of 13 dogs. All of the dogs are paid for by the community. The social emotional learning is a huge piece with our dogs, helping kids. I love what I do!"
Karen receives a $1,500 check from the Michigan Lottery and her class at Brighton Area Schools receives a $500 Grant.
Excellence in Education awards, sponsored by the Michigan Lottery, providing more than 23 billion dollars to public education since 1972.
