LANSING, Mich. — The Michigan Lottery has played a big role in funding education in our state, which is why it has teamed up with FOX 47 News to recognize excellent educators state-wide.
Kelly Westgate, a teacher at Ballard Elementary in Niles is this week's Michigan Lottery Excellence in Education award winner. In her nomination video, Donna Roark says, "She is a dedicated teacher not only to her students but to all students in the district."
Kelly commented, "I just wish that everybody was able to be recognized for what they're doing. I do it because of the kids."
Kelly was recognized with a $1,500 check from the Michigan Lottery and her school will receive a $500 grant!
The Excellence in Education award is sponsored by the Michigan Lottery, proud to provide more than $23 billion to support public education since 1972!
