A 16-year-old Independence Township girl has been hospitalized after hood-surfing Tuesday evening.
Deputies and Township Fire Department responded to a call of a serious injury on Foxfire Circle.
Officials say the girl fell from the hood of a moving car and hit her head on the pavement.
The driver had pulled into the victim's driveway to drop her off home after school. The 16-year-old victim got out off the car then jumped onto the hood of the car while the driver was backing out of the driveway.
The driver continued driving about 100 feet down the road while the victim was still on the hood of the moving vehicle, according to deputies.
The victim lost her grip and fell, seriously injuring the back of her head on the pavement, deputies say.
She was taken to a local hospital for head trauma and has been listed in serious condition.
It is unclear why the 16-year-old jumped on the hood of the car.
The investigation is ongoing.
