Two men are dead after two incidents on separate lakes in Jackson County.
The report of a drowning victim at Vandercook Lake County Park came in before 9 p.m. on July 3.
Officials say a man, woman, and two children were swimming on a foam flotation mat when it overturned. The children and woman, were able to swim to the surface. The man, a 45-year-old from the Vandercook Lake area never came up, and could not be located.
Witnesses tell FOX 47 people formed a human chain in the water to try to reach the man.
Members of the Sheriff's Office Dive Team and Marine Patrol divisions assisted in the search. The vicitm was located around 10:30 p.m. that night and was taken to Henry Ford Allegiance by paramedics where he was pronounced dead.
The drowning is under investigation. The name won't be released until the family is notified.
Officials say 38 minutes after the report of the drowning at Vandercook Lake another drowning was reported on Big Wolf Lake in Napoleon Township. That report came in around 9:42 p.m.
Witnesses on Big Wolf Lake tell News 10 a 55-year-old man went under the water just after 9:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Witnesses say there were a lot of boats in the lake and fireworks show going on at the time. One witness tells FOX 47 the fireworks show went from start to finish and it was after the show is when they saw a helicopter flying above with a spotlight shining down on the water.
Divers recovered the victim shortly after 11 a.m. Wednesday morning.
