OXFORD, Mich. (AP) — Beaumont Health has submitted an application to the state to build a 117-bed hospital in Oakland County.

Beaumont says the hospital would be in Oxford, northwest of Detroit. The 225,000-square-foot hospital is expected to cost $140 million.

Beaumont's application was filed with the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services. If approved, construction could begin within the next two years.

Beaumont Health says the Michigan Certificate of Need Commission reviewed hospital beds in the state and identified Oxford as a limited access area. A limited access area means there aren't enough beds to meet future needs of residents who are within a 30-minute driving distance.
