CEO of USA Gymnastics to resign Tuesday

The head of USA Gymnastics has resigned.

The Orange County Register reports Kerry Perry's resignation will be made official Tuesday.

Perry was the CEO of USA Gymnastics for nine months and has reportedly resigned due to criticism and "little tangible action in helping the organization recover from the Larry Nassar scandal," according to USA TODAY Sports.

Perry took over as CEO of the organization in December after Steve Penny resigned following criticism USAG failed to protect gymnasts from Larry Nassar and abusive coaches.

Last week, new CEO of the U.S. Olympic Committee Sarah Hirshland told USA TODAY Sports that it "was taking time to consider adjustments in leadership."

Hirshland's statement came after a tumultuous week for USA Gymnastics after the organization appointed a gymnastics coach to a top role in the organization.

Mary Lee Tracy defended Nassar back in 2016 after more than 50 women and girls had accused him of abuse.

USAG asked Tracy to resign last week after it said she inappropriately tried to contact Olympic gold medalist Aly Raisman.

Just days after being hired as USAG's elite development coordinator, Tracy posted on social media Friday that she was asked to resign after trying to contact Raisman to apologize, and in the hopes "we could work together to make our sport better and learn from all the mistakes of the past."

Raisman, who is one of the dozens of survivors suing USA Gymnastics was critical of Tracy's hiring on social media.

USA Gymnastics has appointed someone who, in my view, supported Nassar, victim-shamed survivors, & has shown no willingness to learn from the past. This is a slap in the face for survivors, & further confirmation that nothing at @USAG has changed. What a profound disappointment!

Back in January, former U.S. Olympic Committee CEO Scott Blackmun called on the entire board of directors for USAG to resign and promised an independent investigation into the organization.

Blackmun resigned the following month.

Blackman, Perry and Michigan State University interim president John Engler testified before a congressional committee in Washington in July over how each entity has changed in light of the scandal.

Perry was under pressure from several survivors to resign because in their eyes there was not any tangible action during her nine-month tenure.

USA Gymnastics is currently in mediation with dozens of women who have sued the organization. USAG often used that as a reason for Perry's low-profile when it came to interacting with survivors.
