CHARLOTTE, Mich. — Another Mid-Michigan community coming face to face with big decisions about businesses that want to sell marijuana.
As FOX 47 News' Cryss Walker tells us the Charlotte City Council is working to figure out what rules it wants to put in place.
The council is not seeing eye-to-eye on an ordinance to opt-out of recreational marijuana businesses in the city.
“City council's already had one discussion about this and the general census from them was that this is not the time to allow for recreational marijuana businesses in the city”, said City Manager Greg Guetschow.
“Primary reason being state hasn't yet set the regulations for those, so we really don't know what we're getting into.”
That seemed to be the understanding before the meeting, but once the item was addressed the initial understanding fell through.
Members Branden Dyer and Bill Mitchell wanted to hold-off on any decisions and table the discussion for another meeting to thoroughly talk about the options.
The council did not come to a decision on how they will regulate recreational marijuana.
The city has until the end of the year to opt out.
The Charlotte City Council is set to revisit the discussion soon.
