The first 10 medical marijuana dispensaries have been approved for the City of Lansing by the City Clerk.

The applicants were notified on Tuesday.

Applicants were judged on 25 different points of criteria using a 100-point scoring system.

Some emphasis was placed on those applicants who could provide the largest economic benefit. For instance, create jobs and minimize any negative impacts to the city like odor, safety, and traffic.

“Looking at the combined economic investment of these top applicants,” said City Clerk Chris Swope, “they have made a commitment to hire 1,444 workers and invest $51.5 million dollars in Lansing.”

Additional licenses will be determined as the appeals process continues.

“I believe that selecting these ten applicants is the best decision for the City,” said Clerk Swope. “It is a balance between the needs of patients to ensure continuity of services within the City, the requirements of the State, and the appeals process set by the Ordinance.”

An approved applicant will still need approval from the State of Michigan, as well as have a valid certificate of occupancy before receiving a license.

All licenses will need to be renewed annually.
