Community United Together Showing Support

LANSING, Mich. — On August 22, 2020 members of the Lansing Police Department, Lansing Fire Department, along with Dr. Morrell from Lansing Kiwanis Club and Morrell Ministries held a Community Event in the 1700 block of Knottingham Rd. (Lansing, MI) to show support for 10 year old Martell Murchison.

Martell, who lives in South Lansing, lost his left hand in a tragic firework accident on July 4th of this year. Coming together showing support and encouragement for Martell, approximately 30 people from the community showed up for a cookout, outdoor games and dialog on fire and fireworks safety.

Lansing Police Community Services Officer VandeVoorde, Community Policing Officer’s Tocco and Schafer, along with GREAT Officer Vanderwerf supplied Lansing Police swag to attendees and also provided Martel with a NBA star “Steph Curry” basketball.

The event wrapped up with the Lansing Fire Department giving information on what to do in case of a fire along with fireworks safety tip. Lansing Police Department officers gave general youth safety tips and information on how to communicate with Police. Attendees all expressed gratitude and enjoyed the community event.
