Consumers Energy offering help

and last updated

Consumers Energy is extending the enrollment period for those who need help paying their energy bills.

Families that qualify for the utility's care program can get part of their bill covered every month about half over the winter.

By the end of the program homeowners that keep up with their payments will also have their past due bills paid for.

Brian Wheeler with Consumers Energy says, "Care program is really a path to self sufficiency. We have people who have a high past due balances and often time shave low income. Care program helps people to take care of those past bills and to make sure they get low bills they can go moving forward."

There's also shut off protection for seniors 65 or older.

You can call 2-1-1 to find out which programs you qualify for.
