CAMBRIA TOWNSHIP, Mich. — An update on the car accident that injured two Hillsdale County Sheriff's Deputies Wednesday night.
Sheriff Tim Parker tells us the crash happened when Deputy Daun Rubin and Deputy Wes Ludeker were following up on a domestic complaint.
Deputy Daun Rubin has been released from the hospital but the Sheriff tells us Deputy Wes Ludeker will probably be in the intensive care unit for a while.
"We went to the hospital early this morning late last night over saw the deputy," said Parker.
"He's had two surgeries since that time he's still in extreme critical condition and will probably be in ICU for sometime."
Ludeker and the driver of the other car were airlifted to a hospital. Police have identified the civilian as Krista Kackworth.
Both of them are still being treated.
The crash happened around 9 p.m. on Aug. 28 on South Hillsdale Road and Bear Lake Road in Cambria Township.
The Hillsdale County Sheriff's Office says two of its deputies were riding in the same patrol car when their car involved in a crash with another vehicle.
Michigan State Police are investigating the accident.
"They have full control of the crash scene and there doing additional work today out there and then our office will conduct and internal investigation to the events and what had occurred," said Parker.
Fox 47 also spoke with a nearby neighbor who sat with Deputy Wes Ludeker before the ambulance arrived.
"I went to Wes Ludeker and sat there with him for about five minutes until the ambulance got there and then they got him out and you can tell he had been pinned underneath the seats."
The neighbor asks for the community to stick together throughout this investigation.
"Wes and this officer are great cops and they were doing there job they were trying to help save peoples lives."
"It was an accident nobody did this on purpose and I just wish that the community come together instead of saying very negative things, just lift all of these people up and hope that they get better."
The Hillsdale County Sheriff Office posted two fundraisers pages on their Facebook page that were created by close family and friends.
