Doctors grow new ear inside patient's arm

Posted

A Texas soldier recently had an ear transplant after hers was torn off in a car accident two years ago.

Surgeons took cartilage from Private First Calss Shamika Burrage's ribs and implanted it under the skin in her forearm to grow for a year.

Burrage will eventually have sensation back in her ear once her rehab is complete.

Although her ear canal closed after the crash, she never lost her hearing, which means her ear will be fully functional after two more planned surgeries.
