JACKSON, Mich. — On Monday, May 6, police released the name of the truck driver that survived a horrific crash on Friday.
Accident on I-94 in Jackson slows down highway.Fareed Cade, a 41-year-old man from Houston, Texas, was driving the semi when he lost control and crashed his truck into a tree off of I-94 near Jackson.
He is currently at the hospital being treated for his injuries.
The Director of Public Safety of Blackman-Leoni did not issue an update on his condition, however, he said they are still looking into the crash, and all they know right now is that he left the roadway and they don't believe it had something to do with construction.
Cade told police that he does not remember what happened, police aren't sure if he fell asleep.
On May 3, I-94 near Seymour Road in Jackson was the scene of the accident.
It was shut down for much of the afternoon as police investigated what caused Cade to lose control and crash into trees.
(At 3:45 p.m. on Friday, all lanes of I-94 in Jackson were re-opened.)
The crash was all caught on surveillance video and it's tough to watch. The overall consensus-- it was a miracle no one was killed.
The crash that closed down one lane of the highway happened just after 12:30 slowing down traffic. The right lane was blocked on westbound I-94 at Elm Road, exit 141, for about 3 hours.
"We literally thought the worst," said Christopher Newman, an employee at Jackson Nissan. "At first the way that the scene is, you couldn't see a person. You couldn't see anything."
The crash happened in a split second. A semi-truck jumped I-94's guardrail and clipped two trees. It's cab broke apart upon impact.
Newman and other employees saw it first hand and rushed to help the driver.
"The gentleman was still in his seat belt but the way the metal and the cab was twisted, he was kind of still just hanging like his leg was hanging out the door," Newman said.
He called 911.
Meanwhile his co-workers helped the disoriented driver, who looked like he was in his late 40's, out of the crushed cab and kept him awake.
"He kept saying he was tired and wanted to go to sleep and she was like, 'No."
Newman said thankfully, the man's injuries didn't look as serious as they could've been.
"For what he went through, he was untouched."
The semi truck is from CR England Global Transportation.
