UPDATE - The East Lansing Fire Department has shut off a gas leak that occurred earlier today near the intersection of Grand River Ave. and Abbott Road. The leak was caused when construction crews that were working in the area, struck an underground pipe.
Parts of Albert Ave. and Evergreen Ave. will remain closed temporarily as East Lansing fire crews and Consumers Energy workers monitor the situation. Drivers and pedestrians are asked to continue to avoid the area until further notice.
Business owners in the immediate area should call 911 if they smell natural gas inside their business. The East Lansing Fire Department will do air testing at any businesses that are affected.
UPDATE 12:00 PM
MSU sent out the following alert regarding a gas main break that is affecting East Lansing.
"Due to a gas leak in the City of East Lansing, MSU is evacuating the following buildings: Union, Mary Mayo, Campbell, Landon, Yakeley, Gilchrist, Wills House, and Williams. Individuals in those buildings may proceed to IM Circle. Avoid the area."

Construction crews working at a site at the corner of Abbott and Grand River Avenue in East Lansing on Monday, August 1, struck a gas main causing a significant gas leak.
Buildings within a half mile radius of the leak are being evacuated.
Authorities have shut down Abbot Road from Grand River to Linden, Evergreen Avenue, and Albert Avenue. Crews are en route to fix the issue.
Please avoid the area until further notice.
