With the holiday weekend behind us, many students are waking up Tuesday morning to head back to school. For some, they'll be heading to a brand new classroom.

Pattengill Biotechnical Magnet School in Lansing which was formerly known as Fairview Elementary underwent major renovations this summer and is celebrating its grand opening Tuesday morning.

The school's getting a new three-story classroom wing complete with a laboratory and an expanded cafeteria. The school will host students from Pre-K to sixth grade.

These major renovations are part of the 'Pathway Promise Millage' voters passed in 2016.

The tax-payer funded initiative was a 120-million-dollar bond to expand and revitalize two dozen school buildings in the Lansing School District.

Across the street from this school is the former Pattengill Academy that's being renovated to become the new Eastern High School. That's expected to reopen for the start of the 2019-2020 school year.

The grand opening for Pattengill Biotechnical Magnet School starts at 9:30 AM Tuesday.
