LANSING, Mich. — After eleven years, a popular riverboat is making waves again in Lansing.
In a joint effort between Princess Riverboats and Rivertown Adventures, the Grand River Princess returned Friday. The boat has been docked in Grand Ledge.
It last ran in Lansing for the Common Ground Music Festival back in 2008.
Christopher Chamberlain, owner of Princess Riverboats, said the return is sentimental. He designed and helped build the Grand River Princess from the ground up.
"It feels cool to be back where it all started," Chamberlain said. "I don't think enough people really get on the river in Lansing to appreciate it."
The boat is owned and operated by Princess Riverboats, which also operates the Detroit Princess and the Michigan Princess.
The goal is to get people to experience the river outside of kayaking.
Paul Brogan, the owner of Rivertown Adventures Canoe and Kayak Rentals told News 10, "People love getting on the river and kayaking through this area, so this riverboat is just going to be one more added amenity, something that can work for everybody, for all ages."
He added, "People can now get on the river and really experience what we have done here."
The boat marked it's return at 5 p.m. Friday as part of 'Dam Jam.'
Docking into Cherry Hill Part at 5 p.m., the Grand River Princess will take on its first passengers with a steel drum band on the Tio deck for entertainment.
From there, it will travel a round trip route with stops at the Lansing Center and Adado Riverfront Park for the next three hours.
The boat will eventually be able to operate from the footbridge of Adado Riverfront Part to Moores Park depending on water levels.
The boat has a capacity of over 100 passengers depending on its flexible two deck layout.
Cocktails will also soon be served on board because the owners are in the process of getting a liquor license.
It's $10 a ticket to ride and first come, first serve.
