Health risks rise for students in the sexual minority

Posted

A new study out today details some of the health risks faced by high school students who are lesbian, gay or bisexual.

Researchers from the CDC studied data from more than 30-thousand students taken from a national survey.

Students who were in the sexual minority had a higher rate of being victims of violence, drug use and have suicidal thoughts compared to their heterosexual peers.

When it comes to the different groups, bisexual females were more likely to report being attacked or threatened compared to lesbians.

The national survey used in the study did not ask about gender identity, so there were no responses from transgender students.
