LANSING, Mich. — Hillsdale Hospital’s skilled nursing facility, better known as the McGuire and MacRitchie units, has partnered with Hospice of Hillsdale County to provide another option for patients in addition to skilled nursing care. For patients who are experiencing an advanced, life-limiting illness, hospice care is a specialized service that focuses on quality of life for them and their loved ones.
“We are excited that we can now give our patients and their families the option of working with Hospice of Hillsdale County during an inpatient stay or to provide respite care,” Tricia Masarik, skilled nursing facility administrator, said. “Our experience working with them has been amazing and we look forward to our continued partnership to provide our patients the best possible care during this time in their life.”
Hospice provides compassionate care for people in the last phases of an incurable disease, so that they may live as fully and comfortably as possible. In addition, Hillsdale Hospital can provide respite care for patients who are receiving hospice care at home. Family caregivers often get burned out and when they need a break, Hospice of Hillsdale County can help arrange a stay at McGuire.
“While resting and re-charging, caregivers can feel confident that their loved ones are well-cared for,” Masarik said.
This partnership is a result of both organizations’ goal to provide the best care possible to patients needing the specialized care hospice can provide.
“Hospice of Hillsdale County is very excited to be partnering with Hillsdale Hospital,” Shoshanna Finegan said. Finegan is the executive director of Hospice of Hillsdale County. “We believe that by working together to provide compassionate care and support for our patients and their families, we will help to make this wonderful community even stronger than it already is.”
