LANSING, Mich. — The TV Show COPS will not be filming any episodes in Ingham County.
This comes after Ingham County Sheriff Scott Wrigglesworth cancelled Langley Productions TV show COPS from coming to film episodes in Ingham County.
A notification from the Ingham County Non-public Alert System was sent out to notify residents of this cancellation.
Wrigglesworth released the following statement regarding the cancellation.
"One of my many roles as Sheriff is to listen to the community I serve, as well as my employees. Many people liked the idea of COPS coming here. However there was just as many, if not more, that expressed concerns with memorializing someone's worst day for entertainment purposes. I heard concerns from the public, the board of commissioners, as well as many of my deputies. I pride myself and the Sheriff's Office on the relationships we have built, and will continue to build in the community. For example, we spend a ton of time, sometimes entire shifts, responding to overdoses, people with mental health issues, and the criminality associated with both. Although still tough on crime, the volume of proactive work we have done in assisting those with addiction, mental health, and criminal issues is quite impressive, both in patrol and corrections. In the end, after careful review, inviting COPS to come to Ingham County seems to be a step in the wrong direction," Wrigglesworth said.
