Police in Kalamazoo arrest the man accused of abducting a 13-year-old girl from a city bus stop and sexually assaulted her.

Dontrel Jermaine Williams, age 39, is expected to be arraigned this afternoon. Police records show he is being held on felony charges of sex assault and kidnapping.

Kalamazoo police say the teenager was waiting for the bus when the suspect approached her and forced her into his car. The girl told police the man drove her to a home where he sexually assaulted her.

When the 13-year old did not return home, her mother immediately contacted police to file a report. A surprise visit to the home where the girl helped save her life. Police say the suspect's wife came home unexpectedly, the suspect shoved the teen into a closet leaving her alone briefly. The girl saw her chance, and called 911, telling dispatchers she was being held in a house on Clinton Avenue.

“She was smart enough and aware enough to call 911 to report that she had been kidnapped,” Public Safety Capt. Vic Ledbetter said.

Authorities say the suspect and victim do not know each other.

The suspect was arrested on kidnapping and first-degree criminal sexual conduct charges.
