LANSING, Mich. — A Lansing district judge is cutting his term short.

Judge Hugh Clarke sent a letter to Gov. Whitmer last Friday to announce that he's retiring Sept. 13.

His last day on the bench will be Aug. 23.

Clarke was appointed to the court by Gov. Jennifer Granholm back in 2010.

He said he's leaving to pursue "new business opportunities."

The governor will appoint a temporary replacement until the next judicial election in 2020.
